1. The flexible nasendoscope must be sterilised before use. It should also be lubricated. Local anaesthetic may be introduced into the nose, though is not strictly necessary.
2. This example shows a mains powered light source, but portable battery powered light sources are also available.
3. Hold the endoscope in your dominant hand and use your thumb on the lever that controls the instrument's tip direction.
4. Carefully insert the endoscope into the nose.
5. The endoscope can now be gently advanced to give views of the nose, nasopharynx and larynx.
